Empty toilet rolls never make it to the recycling bin in our house! They become telescopes, instruments, mini slides for toys or stowed away in the toy bucket for later. We thought we would put one of them to good crafty use and created a little apple tree. Sprout loves her fruit so I’m sure we will end up with a whole orchard of these trees, which are simple and satisfying to make.
To make your very own orchard, you will need some coloured card, empty toilet roll tubes, PVA glue, mini pom poms (or whatever you like for decoration, crayons, stickers) and some scissors.
Use something round to draw a circle onto your card. I found a roll of sellotape a tad small, so I used the top rim of Sprout’s IKEA bowl. Cut out your circle, then pick out your pom poms and stick them into place.
Snip two slits into one end of your toilet roll and slide the top of your tree into place. You could also paint the tube if you like.
I’m sure we will be making lots more variations on our apple tree, happy making!
