Last Saturday on the suggestion of a friend we went on an adventure to Southampton’s City Art Gallery to investigate the Please DO Touch Trail. It’s an interactive trail for under 5s, which has lots of different sensory activities, all placed around the main gallery. Sprout loved spotting the colourful footprints on the floor and following them to the next exciting activity.
I think Sprout’s favourite activity was looking through the coloured windows and picking the shapes for me to thread onto the string for her.
My favourite thing was the mini art gallery! It has mini versions of the artworks from the main gallery, empty frames on the walls and Velcro on both. Sprout picked her favourite pictures and we curated a mini show!
We also enjoyed dressing up, building towers out of shiny bricks and brightly coloured bricks made from cork, exploring new textures and of course admiring the artwork which is part of the permanent collection. Any of the pictures with animals or trees were particular favourites! We ended our visit with a spot of drawing and then settled down to read a good book.
I would highly recommend a visit! Opening times and directions can be found here, the gallery is very accessible with a pushchair and there is baby changing too.
