This tutorial will show you how to make fabric covered buttons. There are two different types of buttons that you can cover, plastic bases and metal bases. This tutorial covers plastic bases and you can find the tutorial for metal bases here. Both types of buttons come in lots of different sizes and are so easy to cover that the eternal search for the perfect button will be that bit easier!
To make your buttons you will need some plastic cover buttons, scraps of fabric, needle and thread and a pair of scissors.
Cut out a circle of fabric, it will need to be approximately twice the diameter of your button.
Thread your needle and sew a running stitch all the way around the edge of your fabric circle. Leave your needle and thread attached and pop your button, top side down in the middle of your circle. Pull gently on the thread and it will gather up around your button. Then insert your needle across the top of the button so that it catches fabric on the other side. Sew a few stitches through and knot your thread.
To finish your button all you need to do is put the back on. Place the back, raised side up onto your button and press firmly.
Now you know how you can make all kinds of beautiful buttons!
