Make in March

In March I am teaching two workshops at the wonderful craft heaven that is Make on Albert Road in Portsmouth!

Evening at Make

In a cosy evening session on Thursday the 14th from 7pm to 9pm I will be showing you how to make a rag rug from pieces of fabric. This workshop will teach you a traditional skill that you can use to make fresh, modern and practical rugs for your home. It is really exciting watching your design grow and it keeps your knees warm too! You will leave this session with a hook and your rug so that you can finish your design at home (or pop back to Make of course!). The workshop costs £35 and this includes materials, tea and cake.

Rag Rug Detail

On Saturday the 16th from 1pm to 3pm I will be showing you how to stitch paper pieced patchwork, which is the technique I’m using for my heirloom quilt! Once you have learnt the basic technique you can pick any shape and make whatever you like! This type of hand stitched patchwork is addictive and is a great project to pop in your bag and add to over time. In this session we will be making a pincushion from hexagons or you can begin stitching a panel. There will be lots of lovely fabric to inspire you and I will bring along examples to show you. The workshop costs £30 and this includes materials, tea and cake. To book a place on either of these workshops email info@makesouthsea.com.

  1. Beginning to wish I’d not invited sis and bro-in-law to dinner on the 16th as I’ll be in the kitchen when I could be at your patchwork session! Never mind, I’ll be keeping an eye out for other weekend sessions at Make as I dip my toes (or should that be hands) into being creative…
