Ludlow was on our list of places to visit last week and we planned to walk around the lovely old town, take a peek at the castle and the brewery. I never thought we would find something as exciting as the Sheep Shed! The Sheep Shed is a woolcrafts cooperative on Corve Street and is an absolute haven. They have a great selection of buttons, fleece, kits, workshops and handmade gifts and all of these things are locally sourced from south Shropshire and north Herefordshire and support small local sheep farmers.
I love the workshops that they offer, teaching traditional skills such as spinning and weaving. These are run on Mondays and Tuesdays.
I couldn’t leave without picking up some Clun Forest fleece which has lovely dark streaks running through it. I also fell in love with a pair of gigantic knitting needles that have lovely tops that look like acorns! These are going to be used for some extreme knitting, keep your eyes peeled for the results!

I love love your new needles! Can’t wait to see what you are going to make ๐
I’ve already started something, I was so excited I couldn’t wait!
That shop looks great – a little far for me though ๐
After seeing big needles at an exhibition, I made my own ๐ have a look here on my blog to see what I made http://team-rigby.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/two-big-finishes.html and here for the progress http://team-rigby.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/wool.html
What a great idea! Well done on making your own, I’m impressed. I visited on holiday, it seems we live quite near each other, I love Sandcastle Yarns too ๐
Your needles look like batons – they are so big !!!!! I’m intrigued as to what you will be making, it will certainly not be a small project, but will certainly grow quickly.
I used my birthday money to buy them so thank you! I’ve already started something and I think it will be finished soon!
I really want giant needles – I watched some youtube videos of ‘extreme knitting’ and I saw someone make her own using broom sticks!! she carved the ends into points!
Thats a great idea – I’ve heard of people making them from broom handles too – Go for it!
Thanks for the recommendation of the Sheep Shed – I will be visiting a friend near Ludlow soon and will certainly pay them a visit.
They are super friendly and helpful! There is also an awesome shop called Material Material opposite which has a fantastic range of books on art and related subjects. Super very desirable things in there.
Can’t wait… thanks for the tips
